The Clevatess Manga

The Clevatess Manga

The Clevatess Manga, Written and illustrated by Yuji Iwahara, The Clevatess Manga is a dark fantasy seinen manga first serialized in Monthly Comic Alive in 2020. Media Factory later compiled it all into beautifully detailed tankōbon volumes that earned steady praise for its intricate worldbuilding and sharp character designs. Eventually, it grew a loyal fanbase for its mature themes and morally ambiguous storytelling, and by 2022 international licensing discussions had enabled the series to escape Japan in full force with many readers discovering Alicia.

Set in a war-torn world that has existed in an endless cycle of hatred and conquest, humans seek to destroy powerful beast-lords. It tells the story of Alicia, a plucky young hero who is chosen to kill the dread beast king Clevatess, whose overwhelming might has laid waste to entire armies. But when their fates intersect, the cliché of triumph turns into something much more tragic and unpredictable, with both sides forced to reckon with uncomfortable realities.

All of this sends Alicia off into a brutal fight for survival and sense of purpose. But as tenuous alliances build and the reality of vengeance sets in, her beliefs are challenged at every corner. “In between political plots, changing loyalties and the destruction of numerous battlefields, she has to debate if the title hero actually belongs him, or the one whom she swore to destroy.” With humanity’s future hanging by a thread, and Clevatess shackled by motives deeper than mere malice, the series wrestles with questions of power and responsibility, as well as whether any understanding could ever emerge from limitless war.

Destroyed
South of Edthea. Technological powerhouse — produced Arcanacite weapons. Sent 13 heroes; capital Hiderat destroyed by Clevatess.
Boelate Empire
Northeast
Largest and most militaristic nation. Expansionist by nature; seized the opportunity to invade weakened Hyden after Clevatess’s attack.
Eslinn
Allied w/ Hyden
Borders both Hyden and Boelate. Northern ice sheet covers its edge. Maintains a fragile peace as buffer between empires.
3 Unknown Kingdoms
Undisclosed
Three additional human kingdoms exist in Edthea. Their locations, rulers, and allegiances remain unrevealed in the story.

📜 Artifacts & Lore Systems
Arcanacite Weapons (Regalias)
Rare mineral weapons that can cut through anything — the only arms capable of harming a Dark Beast. Produced exclusively by the Kingdom of Hyden’s royal forge.
Dark Ichor
Magical blood that flows through Clevatess’s veins. Used to resurrect the dead, binding them as immortal servants permanently loyal to the Beast Lord who revived them.
Books of Toa
Prophetic tomes dictating hero selection, governance, and fate. A mix of ritual, relic, and curse — often manipulating those who read them.
Magic Stones
Artifacts that allow humanoids to use magic. Considered proof of racial inferiority by Vordein — “true humans” required no such stones to wield power.
The Void Borders
Pitch-black territory on all maps of Edthea. Nobody who crossed these borders ever returned. Not even the Beast Lords venture beyond.
🌍 The 5 Humanoid Races
👤
True Humans
Ancient master race. Vanished long ago — considered legend. Needed no magic stones.
Hyden Race
